Hopewell Center receives $300,000 grant from the Missouri Foundation for Health

Hopewell Center, the largest independent, non profit, comprehensive mental health agency in the St. Louis Metropolitan area, has received a $300,000 grant over three years from the Missouri Foundation for Health. Hopewell Center was one of eleven agencies funded statewide to treat persons who are dual diagnosed and will be part of a statewide effort to collect information about what works best when treating persons with both mental health and addiction illnesses.

Grant funds will be used to enhance Hopewell’s co-occurring treatment services for persons with both mental health and addiction illnesses by creating a seamless network of care. For the past three years, Hopewell has been providing individualized treatment for dual diagnosed clients, through a grant provided by the St. Louis City Mental Health Board of Trustees.

This new grant will be used to develop more comprehensive services, by working with its existing programs and community resources to provide a broader range of services such as residential care and other needed support services. Staff will be cross-trained in mental illness and addictions. A multidisciplinary team of counselors, medical staff, and community support workers will work together to provide services. Seamless care will extend to the community as staff work cooperatively with local agencies to ensure coordination and continuity of care.

Staff will also be working more closely with family members and significant others to treat persons with co-occurring disorders. Clients will have a stronger recovery network and a greater chance of improving the quality of their lives with family involvement.

For further information regarding co-occurring treatment, contact Dr. Marva Lloyd Redd at 531-1770, ext. 231.
