Dr. Amanda Murphy, President /
CEO of Hopewell Center gave
opening remarks applauding
participants for their
perseverance and remarkable
efforts to improve the quality
of their lives by striving to
live substance free. There was
a celebrative and victorious
atmosphere when 12 program
participants received their
Pioneer Awards for their
participation in the program.
The awardees shared with guests
their personal struggles with
their dual diseases.
Regina Trotter, Vice
President of Services, commended
the awardees for their
willingness to change. “Change
is always hard but you were
willing to face the unknown in
search of a drug free life.” she
stated.
The awardees were jubilant in
accepting their awards and were
full of gratitude toward the
Hopewell staff and the St. Louis
Mental Health Board of Trustees
which funded the program. Dr.
Murphy expressed gratitude and
appreciation to the Board for
its visionary leadership in
treating the chronically
mentally ill with substance
abuse problems.
Carter Whitson, Grants
Manager for the St. Louis Mental
Health Board, was
presented with a plaque
recognizing his steadfast
support in helping to bring this
program to Hopewell Center. Mr.
Whitson spoke encouraging words
to the participants and to the
Hopewell staff who serve them.
The Pioneer Award Recognition
Ceremony was held on September
15, 2004 at Hopewell Center's
Grand location. There were over
30 people in attendance
including staff, family, and
friends of awardees. |
